Connecting to Wi-Fi

SUPPORTED: You need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection. Most consumer 802.11 b/g/n wireless access points with standard signal encryption security (WEP/WPA/WPA2) are supported. While not recommended, you can also use a wireless hotspot (4G/LTE) but make sure that outbound ports are not blocked. When you press the button and it glows blue, then your Smart Detector is connected to Wi-Fi.

NOT SUPPORTED: Enterprise connections are not supported, such as ones that require a certificate or require logging on through a captive portal (e.g. a separate webpage that asks you to enter a username and password).

REQUIRED: An internet connection is required for your Birdi Smart Detector to have all features enabled. Without an internet connection, your device will still function as a standard smoke + carbon monoxide alarm but will not broadcast alarms and messages to the Birdi app.

REMEMBER: Please make sure there is no firewall blocking outgoing connections or any restrictions on protocols such as http/https or sockets.

WARNING: If your Smart Detector glows blue then it is connected to the Wi-Fi but the Wi-Fi is not necessarily connected to the internet. If the internet is not functioning, the Birdi app will display your Smart Detector as offline.
